Flo40 Forward Jontay Porter Commits To Missouri, But Will He Reclassify?
Flo40 forward Jontay Porter announced his commitment to Missouri, and now the big question is when he will join the Tigers' program.
For much of this spring, Jontay Porter has been a one-man wrecking crew, filling up the stat sheets and piling wins with MOKAN Elite (KS) in the Nike EYBL and continuously proving to be one of the top players in the country. Although his college destination was never really in question, the Flo40 forward made it official by committing to Missouri on Monday night.
Where he committed is no surprise. After all, his father, Michael Porter Sr., is an MU assistant coach and his brother, 2017 Flo40 No. 1 Michael Porter Jr., is a recent Mizzou signee. Joining his family in Columbia, MO, was inevitable.
The biggest question surrounding the No. 23 prospect is when he will wear a Tigers uniform.
Right now, Porter is the 2018 class, averaging 18.1 points and 12.7 rebounds heading into EYBL Session IV in Los Angeles this weekend and rapidly climbing up the rankings with his stellar play. He was the front-runner for league MVP at the halfway mark.
However, the 6-foot-10 power forward who helped Nathan Hale (WA) to an undefeated 29-0 record this past high school season, could join the Missouri program for the 2017-18 campaign and add to an incredible class that includes Porter Jr., Flo40 big man Jeremiah Tilmon, point guards Blake Harris and C.J. Roberts, and graduate transfer Kassius Robertson.
Even if that were to happen, when is still the biggest question.
Does Porter reclassify and wait until Peach Jam is over in July?
Does he reclassify and join the program in June?
Will he just stay in 2018 and dominate in high school next season?
So many details are still left to find out, and the hoops world will find out soon enough. But the first step is out of the way.
