Stony Brook Women's Basketball Schedule 2023-2024: What To Know
Stony Brook Women's Basketball Schedule 2023-2024: What To Know
Stony Brook women’s basketball team has seen success under head coach Ashley Langford. Here’s a look at the Seawolves’ schedule for the 2023-2024 season.
The Stony Brook women’s basketball team had a great debut in the Coastal Athletic Association last season and finished just off the pace of the conference leaders.
The Seawolves turned in an 11-7 conference record during the 2022-2023 campaign, while the trio of regular-season champions (Drexel, Northeastern and Towson) were 13-5.
The successful run was the sixth consecutive winning season for Stony Brook, which previously played in the America East Conference. The Seawolves won the America East tournament in 2021. The win earned them the program’s lone appearance in the NCAA Tournament. They also were the regular-season champions in 2020 and 2021.

Stony Brook must’ve turned some heads, as 2023-2024 CAA Women’s Basketball Preseason Poll has the Seawolves slated to finish second in the conference this year. Towson topped the poll with 163 points and nine of the 14 first-place votes, while Stony Brook had 139 points and two first-place nods.
Two Stony Brook players—junior forward Sherese Pittman and graduate guard Gigi Gonzalez, received preseason recognition, as they were named to the All-CAA preseason first team and second team, respectively.
Last season, Pittman averaged 13.7 points and 8.2 rebounds per game, while Gonzalez added 12.5 points and 4.3 assists per contest. Both were honored at the end of the season, too. Pittman made the All-CAA second team, and Gonzalez was a third-team selection. Their teammate, guard Annie Warren, made the All-CAA first team.
In June, Langford announced the addition of four signees for the 2023-2024 season, all transfers, while recently appointed assistant coach Rena Wakama helped lead the Nigeria women’s basketball team to the FIBA AfroBasket championship in August.
In September, Langford signed a contract extension through 2028. She’s two seasons into her tenure and has compiled a 41-19 record.

The 2024 CAA Women’s Basketball Championship will be held March 13-17 at the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, D.C.
It will come on the heels of the 2024 men’s event (March 8-12), as the conference and venue agreed to a four-year contract that will allow these championship tournaments to return each year through the 2026-2027 campaign.
The winner will earn an automatic berth into the Division I Women’s Basketball Championship.
When Is The 2024 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship?
The NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship will offer LSU the opportunity to defend its national title, won in March 2023 over Iowa, 102-85.
Selection Sunday, which will fall on March 17, is the day the 68 teams for the postseason bracket are announced.
The First Four will kick things off March 20-21, with eight teams (the four lowest-seeded automatic qualifiers and the four lowest-seeded at-large teams) battling for the opportunity to compete in the main 64-team bracket.
The road to the national championship will continue with the opening round of play (Round of 64) on March 22-23. The Round of 32 will take place March 24-25. The top 16 seeds will host the first- and second-round games.
Continuing with a tradition established in 2023, the Sweet 16 (regional semifinals) and Elite Eight (regional finals) will be held across two sites – Albany, New York, and Portland, Oregon. These rounds will take place March 29-April 1.
The 2024 women’s Final Four (national semifinals and national championship) will be held at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland on April 5 and April 7, respectively.
