What To Know About Creighton's 2023 Foreign Tour Opponents

The first steps on the road to Glendale, Arizona, home of the 2024 Final Four, begin for a stacked Creighton Bluejays squad this August in the Bahamas.

Creighton embarks on paradise with a promising mix of veteran standouts and talented newcomers, two of whom get their first taste of in-game competition with this foreign tour.

Creighton faces three quality opponents, beginning Aug. 4.

Bahamas Select

The Bahamian team features an assortment of former college players, including one from Creighton's neck of the woods. Eugene Bain played at North Platte College, before transferring to Bellevue (Nebraska) University. He earned NAIA All-American honors there.

Eugene Bain and Michael Bain Jr. are two of the veteran leaders for the Bahamas Select squad Creighton will see Aug. 4.

Others include Domnick Bridgewater, a capable combo guard who has scored in double-figures in four of his last five games in international competition.

Speaking of perimeter scoring, wing Qyemah Gibson was an electrifying point producer in the 2021-2022 USPORTS season for Canadian university Saint Mary's.

Gibson averaged 19.2 points per game, the second time in his collegiate career he averaged in double-figures.

On the interior is an experienced post player poised to offer Ryan Kalkbrenner a solid measuring stick before the 2023-2024 season.

Danrad Knowles played four years at the University of Houston and was the Cougars' primary starting big man in 2015 and 2017. He averaged nearly 10 points per game as a sophomore and posted 7.5 a night as a senior.

Knowles averaged more than a blocked shot per game in his career at Houston and has been a reliable scoring option around the rim for the Bahamian national team.

Zalgiris

Steeped in history and home to countless former NCAA standouts, as well as players with NBA experience, Lithuanian pro club Zalgiris is among the best organizations the EuroLeague has to offer.

Zalgiris' roster includes Kevarrius Hayes, a former Florida Gator; and Keenan Evans, who played on Texas Tech's 2018 Elite Eight squad.

Evans was an outstanding scorer his final two seasons at Tech, and he put up 10.8 points per game for Zalgiris last season.

Another Big 12 product, former Iowa State guard, Naz Long, joins Evans in the Zalgiris backcourt.

Zalgiris closed out its 2022-2023 Lithuanian season as the champion, scoring revenge after its 11-year reign atop the league came to an end in 2022. The club took down Rytas in the championship series.

Obras

Argentinian club Obras Sanitarias is the third, and final, opponent Creighton faces on its foreign tour.

The club builds off of the playmaking of 6-foot-1 combo guard Pedro Barral, a dynamic passer and more-than-effective scorer who led Obras in assists and was second in scoring during the 2022-2023 season.

Barral presents a mirroring style of player for new Bluejay Steven Ashworth to face.

Joaquin Rodriguez of the Uruguay national team paced Obras in scoring during the campaign and is the club's primary 3-point shooter.

Expect an up-tempo style of play from Obras sure to test Creighton's ability in transition.
