Monmouth University Men's Basketball Schedule 2023-2024: What To Know
The Monmouth men’s basketball team might’ve had some growing pains while joining the CAA last season. Can they rebound? Check out their schedule.
The Monmouth men’s basketball team struggled to a 7-26 overall record last season, which included a 5-13 mark in Coastal Athletic Association play. That tied the Hawks with Hampton for the final spot in the conference standings.
The 2022-2023 campaign was the first year of CAA competition for Monmouth and Hampton.
The Hawks previously played in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, where they won three regular-season titles (2016, 2017 and 2021) and made two appearances in the National Invitation Tournament under current head coach King Rice.

In their final year in the MAAC, the Hawks were 21-13 and 11-9 in conference play. They finished fourth in the conference standings.
This year, the CAA expands from 13 teams to 14, and the conference’s coaches believe some offseason pickups will help the Hawks improve. In the CAA’s preseason poll, Monmouth was chosen to finish 11th during the 2023-2024 season.
Among the new Hawks for this season are three transfers and two true freshmen. One of the transfers is Xander Rice, the son of Monmouth head coach King Rice, who will be entering his 13th season as the program’s leader.
The younger Rice, a 6-foot-3 guard, makes the move from Bucknell, where he played for four seasons, before graduating in May. He found academic success and was an All-Patriot League third-team selection last year, averaging 14.1 points, 3.7 assists and more than 33 minutes per game.
The CAA already has taken notice of the newest Rice in the conference, as Xander earned a preseason All-CAA honorable mention – the first Hawk in history to receive preseason recognition from the CAA.
Here’s a look at the Monmouth men’s basketball schedule for the 2023-2024 season.
