In their first of three games in as many days, the 18th-ranked Baylor women's basketball team took on the 2-2 Southern Miss Lady Eagles to get things started in the 2024 Battle 4 Atlantis Women's College Basketball tournament. The Paradise Island, Bahamas-based tournament hosts eight teams including No. 16 North Carolina, Indiana, and Texas A&M.

The Lady Bears were 3-1 in 2024 with wins over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M Commerce, and Incarnate Word. Their one loss was to the No. 23 Oregon Ducks, who remain undefeated.

Southern Miss came to play on Saturday with two wins, defeating William Carey University and Blue Mountain College. Their two losses came from Southeastern Lousiana and Bowling Green earlier this month.

Final Score: Baylor Wins 101 - 55 Over Southern Miss In Game 1 Of Battle 4 Atlantis

After four great quarters of basketball between Southern Miss and Baylor—the Lady Bears come out on top of game one of the Battle 4 Atlantis Women's tournament.

Five Baylor players had more than 14 points today against the Lady Eagles and were 44% (15-34) from behind the three-point line, making that the most threes for them this season. Fontleroy and Andrews both tallied four.

For Southern Miss, Grayson and Evans led the points with 12, despite Grayson fouling out. 

Despite their quick start, the Eagles were unable to keep up with Baylor and will be looking for redemption against the loser of Columbia vs Indiana. Baylor will play the winner.

Third Quarter Scores: Southern Miss 44-78 Baylor

The story of the game continues to be Baylor's offense. All across the roster, players are getting baskets with four earning double digits—Walker, Fontleroy, Andrews, and Littlepage-Buggs. Freshman Kayla Nelms played minutes in the third earning four points to make a quick impact.

Southern Miss's Grayson has been plagued by foul trouble this game with four, keeping her time low in the second half. 

Second Quarter Scores: Southern Miss 26-52 Baylor, Baylor Starts Clicking And Runs Away

This whole Baylor team has definitely warmed up and has started clicking to put together quick transitions allowing them to score quickly. Their accuracy also has been improving significantly with threes coming from Fontleroy, Andrews, and Felder. The team is on pace (8) to beat their record of 11 threes made that was set against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Their rebounds also continue to be a difference maker. Only 10 total rebounds for Southern Miss so far. 22 for Baylor.

It appears that some frustration has started setting in for Southern Mississippi at the end of the first half.

Melyia Grayson of Southern Miss has 8 points (4-7). Darianna Littlepage-Buggs has 9 points (3-5).

Southern Miss Calls First Timeout After Baylor Nails Second Three, 14-20 Baylor

Southern Miss calls the timeout with 2:22 left in the first after Baylor's Andrews nailed an open three, making it the second in a minute and a half—Felder put up the first—giving the Bears their biggest lead of the game.

Southern Miss Keeps It Even With Baylor After 5 Minutes, 8-10 Baylor

The Lady Eagles were able to get their offense going quickly to keep things tight with Baylor despite a few early fouls. Baylor has been able to earn second chance after second chance and drawn fouls from Southern Miss. The Lady Bears' misses have been making it tough for them to pull away.
