Columbia defeats Southern Miss 85-66 in the second round of the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament. Columbia simply played better defense and really came alive in the second quarter, taking over ten more shots than Southern Miss. Of note, they had nearly double three point attempts. 

Columbia worked hard on defense and put themselves in position to score. After a slow start, they found themselves a rhythm and just didn’t look back, taking home a victory.

Final: Columbia, 85 - Southern Miss, 66

After a slow start, Columbia managed to build a lead in the second quarter that they steadily added to. Riley Weiss finished with 22 points leading the way for them while Melyia Grayson led USM with 18 points.

At The Half:

In a back and forth first half, Columbia takes a 3 point lead at the half. Southern Miss shone in the first quarter, finishing with a 24-16 lead but Columbia rallied in the second to take a narrow leas of their own. Riley Weiss was the star for Columbia in the first quarter while Morgan Sieper was the star for Southern Miss. Both also shone in the second but Kitty Henderson contributed plenty for Columbia aiding them in their comeback.

Alyssa Ustby Leads North Carolina To Win With Double-Double Over Ball State

It was a close battle between the No. 16 North Carolina Tar Heels and Ball State Cardinals in a low-scoring battle. The Tar Heels were able to tilt the game further and further into their favor as Alyssa Ustby found her rhythm alongside Indya Nivar. 

Ball State took a while to get warmed up and will be looking for redemption on Sunday after losing for the first time this season.

Villanova Rallies Past Texas A&M, Wins 65-57 In Battle 4 Atlantis

Villanova rallied from an early deficit to defeat Texas A&M 65-57 in the Battle 4 Atlantis Women's Tournament on Saturday, advancing to face No. 16 North Carolina on Sunday. 

Texas A&M came out strong in the first quarter, racing to a 14-4 lead as Villanova struggled to find its offensive rhythm, missing key shots and failing to score for much of the opening 10 minutes. But the Wildcats responded in the second quarter, outscoring the Aggies in the first four minutes to cut their lead to just five points.

Texas A&M’s Coulibaly stopped the momentum momentarily with a three-pointer, but Villanova continued to battle back.

Garzon Earns Birthday Double-Double For IU Against Columbia In The Bahamas

In what was a close contest between a Columbia team trying to add another big win to their record and an Indiana team that was looking to build off of their recent win over No. 24 Stanford, the Hoosiers were able to pull out a dub in a close contest on Saturday afternoon in game two of the Battle 4 Atlantis Women's bracket.

Indiana used a late-game surge to defeat Columbia in the second game of the Battle 4 Atlantis Women's Tournament on Saturday.

Baylor Puts Up 15 Threes, Hits Triple Digits vs Southern Miss

After four great quarters of basketball between Southern Miss and Baylor—the Lady Bears come out on top of game one of the Battle 4 Atlantis Women's tournament.

Five Baylor players had more than 14 points today against the Lady Eagles and were 44% (15-34) from behind the three-point line, making that the most threes for them this season. Fontleroy and Andrews both tallied four.

For Southern Miss, Grayson and Evans led the points with 12, despite Grayson fouling out. 

Despite their quick start, the Eagles were unable to keep up with Baylor and will be looking for redemption against the loser of Columbia vs Indiana. Baylor will play the winner.
