Texas Longhorns WBB defeated West Virginia 78-73 to win the Gulf Coast Showcase. Aaliyah Moore, Madison Booker led UT, while JJ Quinerly had 29 pts for WVU.

Texas Longhorns women's basketball edged out West Virginia WBB in a dramatic tourney final at the 2024 Gulf Coast Showcase, 78-73, to claim the championship. 

Texas' centers and wings were the difference as Aaliyah Moore scored 20 points, while Madison Booker contributed 19 points and 8 rebounds. 

While UT led nearly the entire game, West Virginia continued to rally up to the final play of the game when Justice Carlton stole an in-bound pace, sealing the win with the clutch free throws. 

West Virginia's JJ Quinerly led all scorers with 29 points, while Jordon Harrison, the other WVU star guard, had 20 points.

This is No. 12 West Virginia's first loss of the year, and by far the biggest test that No. 5 Texas has seen so far.

Texas Defeats WVU In Instant Classic

Justice Carlton steals the in-bound pass to win the game for the Longhorns, can unbelievebale turn of events as West Virginia had some momentum going and were only three points from tying. 

UT is awarded the Gulf Coast Showcase championship trophy. They'll take home some early-season hardware and plaudits for their performance at the tourney. 

Madison Booker started slow but came up huge in the last two quarters, ending the game with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 1 assist. 

Aaliya Moore fouled out but ended up with 20 points on 8-11 shooting, with 5 rebounds and 3 assists. 

WVU stars Jordan Harrison and JJ Quinerly anchored the Mountaineers with 20 points and 29 points, respectively.
