5 Biggest Things That Happened In College Basketball On FloHoops In 2024
As we prepare for the new year, celebrate the five biggest things that happened in college basketball on FloHoops in 2024.
Even though the new basketball season has not been around for most of the year, it has still provided many wonderful moments.
In such a short time, fans have had the pleasure of witnessing some experiences that others would be lucky to see happen in years of watching college basketball, let alone a full season.
- Creighton WBB Wins The Beach Bracket Of The Emerald Coast Classic
- UNC Wilmington Men's Basketball Makes History In Season Opener
- LSU Women's Basketball, Kailyn Gilbert Scores Layup With 1-Second Left
- Chris Terrell's Career-High 42 Point Game Tops Week 3 Of Video Game Numbers
The sport is at its highest popularity stage, and part of that comes from the memories produced by once-in-a-lifetime events and milestones.
Here are the five most important things that fans saw happen this year in the early portion of college basketball on FloHoops.
Some Of The Biggest Stars In Women's Basketball
- During the week of Thanksgiving, FloHoops had the honor to showcase multiple in-season basketball holiday tournaments featuring some of the best teams in women's college basketball.
- With that, we got the chance to see the top players in the country who lead those great teams. Teams such as UConn, Notre Dame, Texas, TCU, Ole Miss, West Virginia, and many more laced up their shoes and put on a show of great basketball in their respective tournaments.
- Those teams wouldn't be at the top without their stars, such as Paige Bueckers, Hannah Hidalgo, Madison Booker, Hailey Van Lith, Kennedy Todd-Williams, etc. These women came up big for their teams, much like they did all year.

Game Winners From The Holiday Tournaments
- When you have so many great teams competing against each other, you can expect there to be some fireworks, and in this case it came from game winners.
- LSU women's basketball was the first team to pull out a win with a last second bucket, after Kailyn Gilbert made a layup with less than a second left in the fourth quarter to advance the Baha Mar Hoops Pink Flamingo championship game in which they would win.
- Boise State also needed a last-second layup to advance to the Gulf Coast Showcase Women's Showcase championship game but later lost to West Virginia.

Creighton WBB Shooting The Lights Out Against Syracuse
- After the Bluejays beat Wichita State, they would face Syracuse WBB in the Emerald Coast Classic Beach Bracket Championship game, and they couldn't miss it, to say the least.
- The team finished shooting 54 percent from the three-point line, but only two missed threes in the first half, and it was 15-18 through three quarters.
- Starters Morgan Maly and Lauren Jensen were a combined 9-9 from downtown to go into the half and had 28 and 21 points to lead Creighton women's basketball to win in the Emerald Coast Classic.

UNC Wilmington Men's Basketball Make History
- On Nov.4, UNC Wilmington basketball had themselves a game by scoring 143 points against Mount Olive, beating them 143-91, in which 81 of them came in the first half
- With this game, the Seahawks came close to breaking many NCAA records. They were one point shy of tying the record for most points in a half and 44 points away from having the most points scored in a game.
- After this game, the Seahawks have continued to play well thus far into the season.

'Video Game Numbers'
- The inaugural basketball edition of the segment came earlier in the month from the college football season.
- This is meant to showcase the best stat lines across every division in college basketball for both men and women, ensuring the top players get the recognition they deserve regardless of where they play.
- With video game numbers, fans can either explore or relive what they may have missed in college basketball for the week.
