The Division II Women's Basketball Tournament brackets have been released, and to no surprise, Texas Woman's Basketball is the No. 1 overall seed heading into the NCAA tournament.

The Pioneers ended in the top spot in the season's final rankings and won the Lone Star conference after defeating UT Permian Basin, Angelo State, and Lubbock Christian.

For most of the season, Texas Woman's basketball chased Grand Valley State women's basketball, which held on to the top spot for most of the year.

As TWU prepares for another run at a national championship, here is what to know about the team.

Texas Woman's Are Looking For Its First Title

  • TWU may have ended the regular season and conference tournaments, 31-1 and winners of their last 25 games, but the Pioneers' job is not done. They are looking to win the program's first national championship.
  • The stars are aligning for the team, as they have played great basketball throughout the season.
  • Obviously, Texas Woman's will be one of the favorites to win it all, especially considering that in the last two years, the team has separated itself as the best in Division II women's basketball.

Last Season Was One For The Ages For TWU

  • Although TWU fell short in the championship game last year, it was a year of firsts for the Pioneers.
  • The 2024 team would be the first in the program's history to make a Sweet Sixteen, Elite Eight, and Final Four.
  • Head coach Beth Jillson became the first coach in the program to win three conference Coach of the Year awards, and it was also her third consecutive time winning the award.
  • Ashley Ingram won LSC Player of the Year last season, the first time this has happened in the program's history.

This Pioneers Basketball Team Is Full Of Grit

  • Throughout the year, Texas Woman's have gotten the job done by committee and have taken the tough approach for their opponents.
  • TWU ranked No. 4 on offense and No. 1 on defense and margin of victory. Their offense is mostly done inside the arc, as they were second in the LSC in field goal percentage, but they were toward the bottom of the conference in three-point percentage and three-pointers made.
  • With a ranking of four in the LSC, offense has not been a problem for Texas Woman's up until this point, and a big reason for that is that they were among the best at getting to the line and knocking in free throws, shooting 79 percent as a team.
