One of the most wide-open regionals in the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament is the Atlantic Region hosted by No. 1 seed Edinboro (24-6, 17-3 in PSAC) in Edinboro. Pa. at McComb Fieldhouse.

Unlike the regional on the other side of the country out west, which has five ranked teams in the field, only No. 19 Gannon (25-6) is headed to the Atlantic Region. Seton Hill (23-6) was ranked No. 23 heading into the conference championship week, but dropped out of the rankings.

While the field could be somewhat unpredictable, Kutztown (22-11) is riding high after winning the PSAC Championship after upsetting Edinboro. They face Seton Hill in one of the best games in the region on March 14.

Here’s what to know about the Atlantic Region.

What Teams Are In The Atlantic Region?

Gannon was upset by Kutztown as well in the PSAC Championship Tournament, but they remain ranked at No. 19. That’s the only WBCA-ranked team in the field.

Here are the seeds:

  • No. 1 Edinboro
  • No. 2 Gannon
  • No. 3 Seton Hill
  • No. 4 Indiana (Pa.) (21-7)
  • No. 5 Fairmont State (27-4)
  • No. 6 Kutztown
  • No. 7 Fayetteville State (21-7)
  • No. 8 Virginia State (23-6)

NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament Atlantic Region Schedule

Here’s the First Round schedule for the region. All times are ET on March 14.

  • 8:30 p.m. No. 4 Indiana University of Pennsylvania vs. No. 5 Fairmont State University

NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament Atlantic Region Outlook

The favorite is likely Gannon, the only ranked team in the field, but the Golden Knights need tyo re-group after a 58-64 loss to Kutztown in the PSAC Tournament. Seton Hill, meanwhile, was ranked No. 23 in another D2 poll.

Kutztown is entering the tournament scorching with wins over two of the top seeds in the past week, making the Seton Hill game one of the best the region has to offer.

Fayetteville State received 10 votes in the WBCA poll and beat No. 8 seed Virginia State in the CIAA Tournament Championship Game in Baltimore. The Trojans of Virginia State could be hunting for an upset of top seed Edinboro.
