No. 6-ranked North Georgia (29-3) hosts the NCAA Division II Womenโ€™s Basketball Tournament Southeast Region and is the favorite to reach the Elite Eight in Pittsburgh.

But the field in Dahlonega, Ga. at the Lynn Cottrell Arena at the UNG Convocation Center offers an interesting mix of teams capable of pulling off the upset.

The No. 21-ranked Coker Cobras (26-4, 22-4 in SAC) are making history with the programโ€™s first NCAA Division II Womenโ€™s Basketball Tournament appearance as the regionโ€™s No. 2 seed.

Despite losing the SAC Championship game 64-58 to Anderson, the Cobras are armed with Shawnteanna Tillman, the SAC Player of the Year during their historic season. The Cobras set records for the longest winning streak (14) and most wins (26). Tillman even set a record for most points scored in a season at 548.

Hereโ€™s what to know about the Southeast Region.

What Teams Are In The Southeast Region?

Along with North Georgia and Coker, SAC Tournament Champion Anderson is in the field, but the region only features two top-25 teams.

Here are the seeds:

  • No. 1 North Georgia
  • No. 2 Coker
  • No. 3 Anderson (24-9)
  • No. 4 Francis Marion (23-6)
  • No. 5 Columbus State (20-8)
  • No. 6 Carson-Newman (22-8)
  • No. 7 Belmont Abbey (25-5)
  • No. 8 UNC Pembroke (22-8)

NCAA Division II Womenโ€™s Basketball Tournament Southeast Region Schedule

Here is the schedule for March 14. All times ET.

  • Noon: No. 3 Anderson University (South Carolina) vs. No. 6 Carson-Newman University
  • 2:30 p.m.  No. 2 Coker University vs. No. 7 Belmont Abbey College
  • 5 p.m.  No. 1 University of North Georgia vs. No. 8 University of North Carolina at Pembroke
  • 8:30 p.m.  No. 4 Francis Marion University vs. No. 5 Columbus State University

NCAA Division II Womenโ€™s Basketball Tournament Southeast Region Outlook

Coker has never been to the tournament before, but in keeping with the seasonโ€™s narrative, a run to the Elite Eight in Pittsburgh shouldnโ€™t be off the table. But North Georgia has been great all season and are the No. 1 seed for a reason.

A rematch of the SAC Championship Game in the semifinals would be one of the best in the region if Anderson and Coker advance.
