FGCU Outlasts Army In Hard Fought Battle Of CBI Quarterfinal

Florida Gulf Coast was able to fend off Army to make the 2025 College Basketball Invitational semifinals.

In the second quarterfinal game of the 2025 College Basketball Invitational, Florida Gulf Coast men's basketball comes out on top with a last-second victory.

Army reached this stage after defeating Elon in the first round on March 23 with a close five-point game. FGCU received a bye to the quarterfinals, which is not always given to advance to the semifinals, as Jacksonville lost to UIW after receiving a bye earlier on March 24.

Florida Gulf Coast came out of the gate very sharp, but the Army showed plenty of resiliency, like against Elon, to stay in the game. However, the Eagles still had an answer, holding the lead for 34 minutes and hitting timely shots.

Both teams struggled to shoot the ball well, and this game felt similar to having an old-school feel. It seemed as if the game was decided by who won the rebound battle, which was won by FGCU and carried them to the CBI semifinals.

FGCU will face off against the winner between Queens and Cleveland State.
