Crashing the boards at the upcoming Les Schwab Invitational is Oak Hill Academy. The Mouth of Wilson, Va., prep academy is long considered the best high school basketball program in the U.S., and the school is predicted by many to take top honors at the Oregon tourney.
Oak Hill features a top-ranked squad that arguably could beat some NCAA Division I basketball teams. Even without consensus No. 1 recruit and Duke commit Harry Giles (torn ACL), the Warriors are beating opponents handily by double digits. Coach Steve Smith is leading a team headlined with seniors Braxton Key (6-7) and Mario Kegler (6-7), and juniors Matt Coleman (6-2) and Devontae Shuler (6-2).
Kegler, who signed a letter of intent (LOI) with Mississippi St., is averaging 17.4 ppg. An aggressive offensive threat with excellent size and length for a wing, he plays with a high motor and is a matchup problem for most programs.
Key, who signed with Alabama, is versatile with the ability to play both forward positions, and he uses his instincts to disrupt other teams' flow offensively, especially playing the passing lanes.
Coleman currently has 11 college scholarship offers, including UConn, Texas, and Virginia, and is one of the top point guards in the 2017 class. He has shown an ability to lead a team, has above average athleticism with a strong frame, and is a willing passer. Coleman is left-handed but he can drive to the basket and pass comfortably with either hand.
Shuler, meanwhile, is an athletic guard with incredible bounce who makes great plays above the rim. Bursting onto the scene over the summer, he commanded attention for his toughness and aggression. If he continues to mature physically, he may develop into a ‘power guard’ at the next level. Shuler has a number of high major offers entering his junior season, including: South Carolina, Clemson, and N.C. State.
With this roster, it's hard to argue against Oak Hill. Below is the full roster photo gallery.
