Not many know about the “Game of Change.” The 1963 bout between Mississippi State and Loyola of Chicago was more than an NCAA tournament game, it was the beginning to progress both on the court and off.
In Mississippi, there was an unwritten state law that barred schools from playing integrated schools. After winning their fourth SEC title in five years, Miss. St was on its way to another NCAA tournament birth. With a head collision set against Loyola of Chicago, who had four African-Americans in their starting lineup. University president Dean Colvard and coach Babe McCarthy made the historic decision to compete anyways. This will be known forever as the “Game of Change”.
adidas is celebrating this history moment with special jerseys for Miss St. to wear. The jerseys feature the retro designs of the 1963 attire with modern innovations. The uniforms feature the same lightweight, sweat-wicking technology that’s used in the NBA. The ventilation zones on the chest, back and side keep players cool in the most-heated moments.
