Andrew Jones is in the middle of a dream senior season.

The versatile 6'4" guard put up a ridiculous stat line this season by scoring 31 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and dishing 8 assists per game while leading his Irving Mac Arthur Cardinals to another playoff spot. As a result, Jones was named to the McDonald’s All-American and Jordan Brand All-American rosters.

Not bad for a guy who many scouts weren't sure about prior to the beginning of the season.

“This is a great accomplishment," Jones said after receiving his Jordan Brand awards. "I’ve always wanted this, so I worked hard, and now it is finally paying off. But with all the accolades I’ve gotten in high school, it restarts going into college. I've got to make sure I humble myself, make sure I work harder and carry on what I’ve worked on in high school into college.”

Jones is following in the footsteps of his older sister, Alexis Jones, who plays for Baylor and was a 2012 McDonald’s and Jordan Brand All-American.
After watching Shaka Smart's Texas team upset then-No. 3 North Carolina in Austin during his official visit in December, Jones verbally committed to the Longhorns over Arizona, Baylor, Louisville and Texas A&M. 

At Texas, Jones has a chance to become an impact player for one of the top rising programs in the nation.

“During the recruiting process, me and [Coach Smart] built up a great relationship,” Jones said. “Me and [Smart] talk all the time; he has a lot of faith in me as a basketball player. I really want to play for him since he trusts me, 100 percent.”

As one of the most versatile recruits in the nation, Jones expects to play everything from small forward to his natural position of point guard during his first season in Austin.

Irving Mac Arthur head coach Mario Martin has watched Jones grow from a skinny freshman into a five-star senior guard. Now, he believes his pupil is more than ready to handle the rigors of the Big 12, and with a little improvement defensively, might be the conference’s next elite guard.

“Andrew is very good, and I see him translating to the next level relatively easy,” Martin said. “Because he’s been a point guard his entire life; it’s going to be second-nature to him, and he’ll make a pretty smooth transition. He just needs to become a better off the ball defender, and then he will become a complete guard.”

Keep an eye on Jones during next week’s Jordan Brand Classic, which will take place April 15 at the Barclays Center in New York City.
