LJ Goolsby Speaks on Run GMC and Jayhawk Invitational
From April 29-May 1, FloHoops will live-stream the Jayhawk Invitational from Kansas City, Kansas! Touted as the premier youth basketball tournament, the Jayhawk backs it up with big-name teams and highly recruited players.

We recently caught up with Coach Goolsby of Run GMC of Kansas City, which will look to defend its hometown from the national talent descending on the Jayhawk Invitational at the end of the month.

FloHoops: Coach, what got you started in coaching?
Goolsby: In 2001, I started coaching summer basketball. Shortly after, I started KC Pump and run in 2003. Now, that team is Run GMC.

Is Run GMC part of any circuits?
Run GMC competes in the Under Armour Association.

What have been some coaching accolades you’ve achieved?
I was fortunate to coach USA Basketball in 2012. A few guys from our program made Team USA; that helped put my foot in the door. I'm also coaching this year’s Nike Hoop Summit and the UA Elite 24.

Who are some guys on Run GMC to watch for?
Mitch Ballack, who has an offer from Creighton. Deshaun Schwartz—he’s from Colorado Springs and has numerous Pac 12 offers. Bol Bol (Manute Bol’s son) out of the 2018 class. And out of the 2019 class, we have Jerimiah Robinson and Zach Harvey.

What are your goals for your team?
Our No. 1 goal is to help the players prepare for the next level and get them a college education. That’s the reason we do this, to give these kids an opportunity to further their basketball careers and education. Also, to teach our players to play the right way and create an engaging environment.

You can watch Coach Goolsby and Run GMC at the Jayhawk Invitational exclusively on FloHoops April 29-May 1.
