Garden State Getting Into Playoff Groove At PrimeTime Shootout
The full preview of the 2017 PrimeTime Shootout on February 12 from Roselle Catholic High School in Roselle, New Jersey.
Welcome to mid-February high school hoops in New Jersey, when teams raise the intensity level and where the separation between the good and greats ones begins. This is the time to come together in hopes of making a magical postseason push.
While part of the nation continues its state playoffs, or gets ready for them, the Garden State is hosting a special event for local and prominent national squads to face off against each other for a challenging tuneup.
The PrimeTime Shootout at Roselle Catholic High School is, without a doubt, the place to be this weekend. The top three Union City Tournament squads -- Linden, No. 19 The Patrick School and Roselle Catholic -- will be there. So will powerhouse No. 5 Oak Hill Academy (VA), Montverde Academy's post-grad squad, and one of New York's finest in Archbishop Molloy.
All of it is live on FloHoops all day Sunday.
The Patrick School may have all of the headlines with its high-major talent. Roselle Catholic may get some with the dynamic duo of 2018 Flo40 forward Naz Reid and Nate Pierre-Louis. Yet, when it comes to the Union City Tournament, it is Linden, a public school, with the top seed after wins over both squads at least once this season.
An electric squad full of strong guard play, the Tigers will be in full attack mode once again.
PLAYER TO WATCH: Ty-Shon Alexander (Oak Hill Academy)
Billy Preston can dominate the paint. Matt Coleman can orchestrate the offense. Lindell Wigginton can be the primary scorer. The 6-foot-4 Alexander may not be the top option, per say, for the fifth-ranked Warriors, but he is just as important as any player on the roster.
Whether it is scoring or locking down on defense, Alexander is the consummate glue guy who is playing at a high level and will be a key player to keep an eye as Oak Hill makes another run at a Dick's Nationals title.
This is an intriguing game in general, but everyone should just get out of the paint and let these two 7-footers go at it. It's one of the best senior centers against one of the best junior centers.
Kentucky-bound Nick Richards (2017 No. 18) is a beast.
Moses Brown (2018 No. 17) is a problem.
There are several other matchups to watch throughout the day, but this one easily takes the cake.
