Kansas Big Man Udoka Azubuike Returning To Dominate The Paint
Kansas sophomore center Udoka Azubuike is healthy following a season-ending left wrist injury and will return to full action when the Jayhawks travel to Italy from July 31-August 8.
The aches and pains from the left wrist injury might still be there from time to time, but the moments of frustration are long gone. Kansas sophomore center Udoka Azubuike is healthy again, and that's all that matters.
The 7-foot Nigeria native was cleared by doctors to participate in full-contact activities prior to the start of the Jayhawks' summer workouts and practices leading up to their four-game tour in Italy next week, which will be streamed live on FloHoops.
This is great news for KU, which doesn't have a ton of size on the roster, as it looks to replace the production of Landen Lucas. The torn ligaments in Azubuike's left wrist are healed from a season-ending surgery in January, and the screws from his hand were removed in April. The big man told reporters he is confident as he gets ready to travel abroad.
Although Azubuike's freshman season was cut short, his potential and ability to produce in college was evident. He averaged 5.0 points and 4.4 rebounds in nearly 13 minutes per game in 11 contests, including six starts, and proved he could control the paint on both ends.
There is certainly some rust to knock off, especially in these exhibition games, but Azubuike is on the fast track to becoming a force in the Big 12 and the college hoops world can get the first glimpse of that in August.
