How Transfer Dylan Smith Can Make A Difference For Arizona
UNC Asheville sophomore transfer Dylan Smith could play an important role for Arizona during the 2017-18 season.
So what if Arizona has a loaded backcourt full of returning starters? Who cares if playing time might be limited due to crazy depth? All Dylan Smith seems interested in is making a difference whenever he steps on the floor.
That much was crystal clear as the Wildcats kicked off their three-game tour of Spain with a 113-44 victory against Combinado Valenciano in Valencia on Sunday.
In Smith's debut in an Arizona uniform, the 6-foot-5 transfer from UNC Asheville came off the bench to deliver 12 points on 5-for-6 shooting with three rebounds, two assists, and two steals. It was a near-flawless performance that this preseason top-ranked squad will need repeated during the 2017-18 season.
Smith can make a difference for the Wildcats by becoming a consistent, supplemental bucket-getter while bringing energy off the bench.
He will likely be competing for minutes with sophomore Rawle Alkins, junior Allonzo Trier, and freshmen Brandon Randolph and Emmanuel Akot, among others, but it would appear to be a perfect role for the rising redshirt sophomore guard, who averaged 13.5 points per game as a true freshman for the Bulldogs before transferring and sitting out last season at Arizona.
Count on that to continue for the final two games in Barcelona live on FloHoops, and expect some big things from Smith in the coming months.
