Makur Maker became the first five-star recruit to commit to an HBCU.
It's been reported that he chose to attend Howard, a flagship HBCU, over UCLA along with Kentucky and Memphis which were also on his list of top schools.
I was the 1st to announce my visit to Howard & other started to dream “what if”. I need to make the HBCU movement real so that others will follow. I hope I inspire guys like Mikey Williams to join me on this journey. I am committing to Howard U & coach Kenny Blakeney #MakerMob

Outside of his commitment, Maker noteably said he hoped "to inspire guys like Mikey Williams" to do the same. Williams is currently the top shooting guard recruit in the class of 2023. And even though Williams still has plenty of time before we see him hitting the court on the NCAA level, he's seems to be pretty "inspire" already with a few responses to Maker.
On your side my boy let’s shock the world!!! @MakurMaker https://t.co/XJ4JrgFmTH

Even though Williams appears to be heading down the same HBCU path as Maker, it's tough to see if this is a lasting trend.
No matter if this is a once (or maybe twice if Williams follows suit) in a lifetime occurrence, Maker's message is pretty clear, however, he is going to give even more insight behind his decision to attend Howard this week.
