Valentine's Day Special: Every Day Is Love Day For Today's Hoopers
It turns out every day is Love Day for today’s hoopers. Established by the University of Maryland basketball team, the hashtag #LoveDay has become a popular replacement for the hashtag #GameDay on social media since 2014 — a trend that has since caught on with high school basketball players.
The Terps made the transition when #GameDay wasn’t cutting it. Not only was #GameDay an underwhelming example of their excitement before hitting the court, but it also understated the amount of hard work, commitment, and passion that went into getting to that day. Players, staff, and eventually fans caught on to the trend on social media, officially turning #GameDay into #LoveDay.
For many high schoolers with dreams of getting a scholarship at the next level, college players in today’s game are extremely influential. Furthermore, those high school hoopers have become influencers on younger players.
Through Instagram and Twitter, the #LoveDay hashtag has expanded throughout the community, including in posts from 2018 Flo40 prospects Naz Reid and Jahvon Quinerly.
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone, even though true hoopers know #LoveDay is every day.
