Greensboro Day Pulls Off Stunning Upset Over IMG Academy At DICK'S Nationals
NEW YORK — This is what it’s all about, the time of year when the unexpected becomes the ordinary. This is March, and the madness struck the DICK’S Sporting Goods High School Nationals just in time.
So what if seventh-seeded Greensboro Day (NC) was a big underdog? So what if a team from North Carolina had never won a game in the prestigious eight-team tournament? None of that mattered Thursday at Christ The King High School.
Led by seniors JP Moorman (15 points) and Jordan Perkins (14 points), the Bengals took it straight to second-seeded IMG Academy and cruised to a stunning 59-40 victory to advance to Friday’s semifinals.
The upset might not seem too crazy. After all, every team in the field was deserving to be here. It was just the fashion in which it happened, and it led to one of the better locker room celebrations in high school basketball this season.
